River Fishing

The Stamp River System is consistently British Columbia's most productive Salmon and Steelhead system.

It is the site of one of North America's largest Salmon and Steelhead enhancement projects, the Robertson Creek Hatchery. Mature Salmon return to these grounds as three, four and five year old Chinook (Kings). Summer and Winter Steelhead also return to spawn year after year.

The River system is based out of Port Alberni. To get there from Vancouver consists of a Ferry ride and a one hour drive. Easily accessible by car on paved highway. The community has all the amenities required for a comfortable visit.

Summer run Steelhead move into the system in July and are spooked by the low water and the presence of Salmon in September. This makes them difficult to entice and it's hard to keep a Salmon from taking your Steelhead bait. The best time for Summer run Steelhead is in mid October to mid November, after the Salmon have spawned and the waters have risen.

 Fall Salmon

We are expecting 80 thousand Coho next fall. Water levels are very consistent in our river and this means red hot Coho fishing. Some days as many 2000 fish swim past your feet. These are silver bright from the ocean and full of life.

Drift Boats and Jet boats allow us to fish in almost all water levels and conditions so we can get to the most productive waters - regardless of weather.

Our guides experience ensures a safe and productive trip.

The technique:
Drift Fishing with floats, and roe as bait. We provide everything required for a successful trip. All the gear, tackle, bait, equipment, guide etc. The only things you need to bring are warm clothing, lunch and license.

Waders are not required but are good to bring if you have them. Feel free to bring your favorite rod and reel and gear.

More in-depth information on river fishing

The Steelhead season is from early November to early April. We can accommodate up to 10 anglers per day and trips can range from one to five days.

Unlike other rivers in the province, the Stamp River can be fished everyday and high waters or heavy rains do not affect fishing. This means that the days that are booked are the days that we fish. This is important when dealing with customers that have to fish on specific days.

Guests fish 2 people per guide and are guided in one of the Four jet boats, or in one of the two Mackenzie style drift boats. The equipment is from our sponsor, Shimano.
