Kyuquot Sound and its surrounding waters are adjacent to one of the most prolific fish highways in the world. Mature Migrating Salmon pass these waters every season. Just 13 miles out from shore the ocean floor drops to 2000 feet. Meaning, an incredible amount of salmon are within our striking distance. Our large boats allow us to target these fish which are out of most peoples reach.
There is never a time when there are no Chinooks to catch, there is certainly no in between
runs as you hear from other spots on the coast. The fish are always here.
Technique
The primary technique for off shore fishing is trolling with Downriggers.
We use a variety of spoons, hootchies and plugs to catch Chinook and the same gear
is trolled shallow for Coho.
Our primary near shore method for Salmon fishing is trolling with Anchovies and Herring.
Near shore Chinooks are primarily at depths from 20 to 40 feet. Massive schools
of baitfish trapped along the rocks draw large schools of migrating Salmon just
minutes from our ship. These fish average from 20 to 40 pounds with a few topping
the scales around the 50 pounds every season. This shallow water fishing can leave you breathless after a 20 minute fight with
one of these magnificent trophies.
