Fall Steelhead Season in Full Swing

Steelhead feeding on Salmon eggs

Fishing Report Oct 29 2014

Greetings from the Stamp River in the Alberni Valley

The Steelhead have come out of the woodwork now as the Chinook and Coho have begun spawning in the rivers.  The Steelhead feed on loose salmon eggs so are aggressively searching for food in predictable locations.

Extreme rains hampered us for a few days but the upper river has been becoming back into shape. Give us a call for the daily conditions as it has been changing in both directions rather quickly. We are definitely in the high water conditions.
Fall Stamp River Steelhead

The Steelhead fishing has been productive this past week and we expect the trend to continue. With the high water event coming early this year (usually November), we anticipate the Winter Run Steelhead likely to show in the river early as well.

Fly Fishing or Gear fishing have both been productive methods.  Note that there is a bait ban in effect in the upper river system consistent with other years.

Hatchery Steelhead may be retained. Two per day and 4 in possession is the limits. A steelhead conservation endorsement is required on the fresh water licence. All Wild Steelhead must be released.

Feel free to give us a call at 250-723-8022 for the latest conditions between 8am - 7pm any day of the week.
