Good Conditions & Numbers of Winter Steelhead

Half way already for captive brood program!

Jan 9 2015

From the pictures and previous weeks report, you can see that guests have been getting some nice Steelhead on their trips.

The water has been a great height and guests have been get a good mix of Hatchery and wild fish.  Murphy guests with the help of their guides have been pitching  in for decades to help get the Wild Captive Steelhead Brood Stock needed to maintain the hatchery Steelhead program on the Stamp river. This year the contribution to this program has been going much better than the past five years and it simply because of abundance.

The goal is about 30 summer runs and fifty winter runs.  We are half way to the winter run target and summer run target was captured this fall.  This is great news for the future fisheries.

If you recall in the past three year winter run targets were tough to meet, while this year it looks like the targets will be easily met with with a good diversity from Dec, Jan and Feb.

Previous years it has mostly been February and March. That being said we will probably see the bulk of the hatchery fish coming a little later.

If you want to catch a Steelhead this may be the year.  We have some available space coming up after Jan 18th. Give us a call.

Nice Limit!

Chromer on New Years Eve!   One of many this fine day!

The river conditions graphs below are generated from the upper system near Robertson Creek Hatchery. The lower system is generally higher and has more color, however this data is still very useful as it will indicate the trend.  The Stamp Falls data system was wiped out with the past flood and not hearing of any immediate plans for replacement.
